Literacy

Learning Focus: Comparing ideas in a story and constructing meaning.

1. Listen to the story of The Three Little Pigs.

2. In your journal, write about the following:

  • Which house is the strongest?
  • Why is it the strongest?
  • If you were to build a strong house, what materials would you use?
  • Draw a picture of this type of house.

3. Send me a picture of your writing on Seesaw and/or a video of you reading me your answer.

Here’s an extra (fun!) optional activity for Science:

1. Build 3 little houses out of different types of materials.  Use recycled materials or anything you can find in your house. Some ideas include popsicle sticks, tin foil, straws, marshmallows, sugar cubes, deck of cards, cardboard from your recycling bin or LEGO.  It’s okay if it falls apart right away.  That’s an important thing to notice about the type of material you used.

2. In your journal, tell me which material made the strongest house. What made the weakest house?

3. Send me a picture of your houses on Seesaw.

Literacy

Learning Focus: Re-telling a story.

1. Do you remember the story of The Three Little Pigs from yesterday? Now it’s your turn to tell this story on Seesaw.  If you’d rather re-tell it without the use of the pictures on Seesaw, feel free to video your child telling the story and send that to me instead.

Literacy

Learning Focus: Constructing meaning from texts.

1. Think of the two stories we listened to this week about The Three Little Pigs. In your journal, answer the following writing prompts:

  • Who is telling the true story, the pigs or the wolf?
  • Why do you think that?
  • Double check your writing. Did you start each sentence with a capital letter?  Did you end each sentence with proper punctuation?

2. Follow along with this fun drawing video on Art Hub for Kids and draw your own Three Little Pigs:

3. Share your writing and art with me on Seesaw.

Learning Focus: Introduction to 3D Shapes

1. If you have a printer, print the nets on this website and make your own 3D shapes (you will need paper for printing, scissors for cutting and glue or tape for holding your folds in place): https://www.math-salamanders.com/3d-geometric-shapes.html

2. If you don’t have a printer, head out for a walk in nature and find the natural 2D and 3D shapes that nature has to offer us! Can you find:

5 - rectangles or rectangular prisms
4 - circles or spheres
3 - triangles, triangular prisms, or pyramids
2 - squares or cubes
1 – diamond

Good luck! **if you can't find the shapes, feel free to make them (i.e., use four sticks to make a rectangle).

Friday, May 8th
