Today is the two year anniversary of the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash. If you have a hockey or sports jersey at home, please wear it today in honour of the Humboldt Broncos. We remember them today. Put a hockey stick on your front step if you have one.
Literacy
Learning Focus: Sounding words out in reading and writing.
1. Read the poem, Easter Surprise (sent to you via email).
- To sound out this poem, you will need to remember some phonics rules:
- Vowel Teams – When two vowels go walking, the first one does the talking and says its own name. Watch the song to refresh your memory.
- Double Letters – When there are two of the same consonant together in a word, they make one sound together. For example: ball, apple, egg. Here is a video about Geraldine the Giraffe learning this rule.
Remember, phonics rules do not always work, but they give us something to try when we are stuck on a tricky word.
2. Use your five senses to write your own Easter Poem. You can print the Easter Is… template, or write your poem on paper.
- Remember, I am not looking for all the words to be spelled perfectly. It is important that you use the letters that you hear to sound out the words.
